Big Twin Break-In Procedures

In order for your new engine to "Seat In" its critical parts, we recommend for the first 500 miles, you observe the break-in procedures provided below. Adherence to these recommendations will help assure future durability and performance

For the first 50 miles, avoid operating at any steady engine speed for long distances and keep the engine speed below 3000 rpm in any gear. After 50 miles, and up to 500 miles, avoid operating at any steady engine speed for long distances and keep the engine speed below 4000 rpm. If your new bike does not have a tachometer, follow the chart below:

Gear 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th
MPH 15 25 35 45 55 55

Always let your bike warm up before riding. Avoid fast starts, hard breaking, and lugging the engine by accelerating at low rpm in higher gears.

New Owner F.A.Q.

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Harley-Davidson®!

Q: How long is the Harley-Davidson® Factory Warranty?

A: Twenty four months from the date of purchase.

Q: What does the warranty cover?

A: Any parts and labor found under normal use to be defective in factory materials or workmanship.

Q: When should I bring my bike in for the first scheduled maintenance, how much will it cost?

A: The first scheduled maintenance involves a thorough 26 point inspection that is essential in maintaining the investment in your new Harley-Davidson®. "Break in" fluids installed at the time of manufacture are replaced with genuine Harley-Davidson® motor oil in the engine and semi-synthetic formula plus in the primary and transmission. Steering, braking, and lighting systems are checked as well as all critical fasteners, spoke tension, and tire pressure to ensure a safe ride. Drive belt, primary chain, clutch and throttle cables are checked and adjustments are made to ensure longevity and proper performance. The bike is then test ridden to check for any unusual noises or vibrations. All work is done by one of our factory trained technicians. Then your bike is washed to be ready for pick up. This service usually takes approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The cost is approximately $295.00 plus tax. There is an additional charge if you wish to upgrade to Syn3 synthetic oil. This is a great time to add certain accessories which receive free installation. Just call to make an appointment, we usually schedule appointments two days in advance.

Q: Do you offer a prepaid maintenance plan to cover regularly scheduled maintenance?

A: Yes. We have the Service One Club, a premier maintenance plan that covers regularly scheduled maintenances plus free tires and brakes! Pre 10 am appointment receives same day priority service. Enjoy a loaner while we do the work!
